High School Math Requirements

Beginning with students who were freshmen in the 2009-2010 school year, all New Mexico students are required to pass at least four math classes to graduate from high School. The minimum requirement is to take math through Algebra II.

Capitan High School currently offers the following math classes:

- Algebra 1
- Geometry
- Algebra 2
- PreCalculus, which includes Trigonometry
- AP Calculus

In Capitan, 8th grade students, who have demonstrated algebra readiness in the 7th grade, are invited to take Algebra 1 for high School credit. This allows them to take math through Calculus - excellent preparation for college.

Students may also take on-line or dual credit classes to meet their math requirements. In addition, the Capitan Municipal School board can adopt other requirements. Check with your councilor or your student handbook for more information.
